About the Artist

Wood Carver. Ocean Advocate.
Retired Deputy Fire Chief.

Following a 26-year career as a Deputy Fire Chief, I shifted my focus from public service to personal passion—devoting myself full-time to the art of wood carving. Based in the coastal town of Island Heights, New Jersey, my home and studio overlook Barnegat Bay, where the natural world is both my inspiration and collaborator.

A self-taught artist, my work is deeply influenced by a lifetime spent in and on the water. I grew up exploring the Atlantic—diving, surfing, and searching the shoreline for driftwood. That intimate connection to the ocean and its rhythms informs every sculpture I create. My carvings often depict marine life—whales, seahorses, horseshoe crabs—and nautical motifs inspired by colonial figureheads, maritime folklore, and American seafaring history.

Each piece begins with a single, carefully selected piece of wood—chosen for its grain, age, and the story it seems ready to tell. I use a combination of power and fine hand tools to bring out the natural character of the wood while sculpting it into bold, expressive forms. Some remain raw and elemental; others are finished with hand-mixed oil paints that enhance their detail while preserving their organic roots.

Collectors are drawn to the tactile nature of my work and the narrative it carries. Every carving is a one-of-a-kind reflection of the coast—both real and imagined. Whether displayed in private collections, seaside homes / businesses, even contemporary interiors, my work evokes a sense of place, memory, and respect for the marine world.

Beyond aesthetic value, my work is driven by purpose. I aim to raise awareness of the fragile ecosystems along our shores and to inspire stewardship through art. For those who seek meaningful, hand-crafted work with a strong sense of story and place, my carvings offer a lasting connection to the beauty and mystery of the sea.
